What methods are there for drying transformers?

This method involves placing the device body inside an oil tank, with the outer winding coil connected to the power frequency current, utilizing the heat generated by eddy current losses in the tank wall for drying. At this time, the temperature of the tank wall should not exceed 115-120°C, and the temperature of the device body should not exceed 90-95°C. For the convenience of winding the coil, it is advisable to minimize the number of turns or reduce the current; generally, a current of 150A is selected, and the wire can be of 35-50mm². Multiple asbestos strips can be placed on the tank wall, and the wire is wound around the asbestos strips.

1. Induction Heating Method

This method involves placing the device body inside an oil tank, with an external winding coil connected to the mains frequency current. It utilizes the heat generated by eddy current losses in the tank wall for drying. At this time, the temperature of the tank wall should not exceed 115-120℃, and the temperature of the device body should not exceed 90-95℃. To facilitate winding the coil, it is advisable to minimize the number of turns or reduce the current; generally, a current of 150A is selected, and the wire can be of 35-50mm². Multiple asbestos strips can be placed on the tank wall, with the wire wound around the asbestos strips.

2. Hot Air Drying Method

This method involves placing the device body in a drying chamber and passing hot air for drying. The temperature of the incoming hot air should gradually rise, with a maximum temperature not exceeding 95℃. A filter should be installed at the hot air inlet to prevent sparks and dust from entering. The hot air should not be directed straight at the device body; instead, it should be blown evenly from below the device body in all directions, allowing moisture to escape through the ventilation holes in the box cover.
